May Newlsetter

Happy May! Can you believe it? What a beautiful spring it is turning out to be! We have only 7 more weeks left of school but you better believe we have booked them solid with exiting activities, special guests, Field Trips, and more! Here’s what we’ve got coming up over the next few weeks!

Last week the kids visited the DeCordova Museum right here in Lincoln! We love this trip because we can walk right through the beautiful fields of our home-town and end up at this incredible outdoor art museum! Ask your child what they liked the most and let us know in person, or on any of our social media pages. LEAPers also learned about the Kindness Rocks Project on Wednesday. Kids of all ages got a chance to decorate rocks with words and pictures that bring them joy. Now we can place these rocks in and around the community for someone else to find. Kids and adults are encouraged to take and share rocks that brings joy to them. Join us in this growing community project by decorating and sharing rocks of your own.

This Friday was May the Fourth (be with you) Star Wars Day. LEAPers were invited to Fun Night for Pizza, Ice Cream and Fun with friends. Kids had the choice of watching a Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope or Honey I Shrunk the Kids. We’ll have one more Fun Night coming up in June.

This week we are so excited to have the artists from Magic Brush Pottery come to LEAP to make some beautiful and functional pieces of clay. This company was so amazing during VacaPlaydays that we had to have them back again! We cannot wait to see all the incredible things the kids create.

Big Kids Drop In

Calling all Big Kids! LEAP is having another Big Kids Drop In Night on May 18th! This is a great opportunity for Middle School kids to have LEAP all to themselves. All Lincoln Middle School students (even Non-Leapers) are invited for a movie, snacks, music, and videogames—at only $10 a student!

Color Wars are coming! We love doing a color wars event when the weather gets warm because it’s an awesome opportunity to promote teamwork and sportsmanship while having fun in the sun. The teachers are already excitedly planning the campus wide activities for the end of May.

May 23rd we be going on one of our favorite local field trips: Drumlin Farm! We are so lucky to have this Wildlife Sanctuary just down the street from us. Every year we take a trip to Drumlin and they always have new and different things to show us—can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this time!

The LEAP Annual Meeting is May 30th. This is an open board meeting that all LEAP parents are encouraged to attend. After a picnic dinner and some meet and greet, we will discuss the year and make plans to continuously improve our program. Then, parents can learn about becoming a board member and vote for a new LEAP board of directors.

Kindness Rocks & DeCordova

Just a few pics from yet another wonderful wednesday! Check out what the younger kids saw at DeCordova and then take a peek at the finished Kindness Rocks Display with so many incredible rocks created by LEAPers of all ages. Kids and adults can feel free to take and share rocks that brings joy to them. Ask your kids what they learned with this project and what they put on their rock, then join us in this growing community project!

The Kindness Rocks Project

As part of our Earth Day Theme Day, LEAPers will all be learning about the Kindness Rocks Project and decorating some rocks to share with the world. Check out this video to learn more about the Kindness Rocks Project and how it all started

Rocks will be in front of LEAP in our new display case and we encourage kids and adults to take one that speaks to you, share with a friend, or add one of your own to the pile. Let’s all work together to spread kindness and caring throughout the world!

Outdoor Safety

We are so happy that the weather is starting to get warmer and we can go play outside again! LEAPers and teachers are excited to be doing more and more outside activities, including Fort Building in the Woods, going on Nature Walks, and outdoor free-play.

Because of these activities, however, we want to remind everyone to be aware of Ticks, Poison Ivy, Sunburns, and other outdoor dangers to children. LEAP staff is doing all they can to assist children and keep them safe, but we can’t do it alone.

Here is a great educational website about tick safety for kids– it’s a good idea to make tick-checks a part of your bedtime routine. Parents are welcome to send students with sunscreen and bug-spray and the LEAP staff will assist if necessary. Thank you for helping us keep your children safe!

May 4th FUN NIGHT

Next Friday, May 4th is another LEAP FUN NIGHT! Mark your calendars for a Fun Friday Night– Kids come to leap for a movie with friends, and parents get the night off!Fun Night Flyer.jpg
