GUEST SPEAKER!

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER!!
Gus Muench is a Data Scientist with the American Astronomical Society. He will be sharing two computer programs with the LEAP kids about how to visualize and explore astronomy data on the web. The first is the WorldWide Telescope (WWT) computer program from Microsoft Research, which is a stunningly beautiful and freely available tool offering immersive views of the sky and multimedia links to interactive descriptions and explanations of millions of celestial objects. The kids will also learn how astronomers make “color” images of space by working with a Pencil Code script that lets them remix existing images or build their own images from individual black and white images from different observatories.

You are invited to an evening of STEM family fun!

What do engineers do? They solve problems!  Join us for an evening of problem solving as we transform LEAPers into little engineers who come up  with innovative ideas to a variety of design challenges. We will review the engineering design process  (no prior knowledge is necessary!) and use everyday materials to solve problems in books as well as  other simple challenges. Bring your creativity and curiosity, everything else will be provided. The evening will be facilitated by Mia Dubosarsky Katz.
